And then we came to the end
As many of you already know, I have decided to go back to school this fall. I am going to study to be a paralegal. The program should take about a year or so, and when I'm done, hopefully I will find myself with a new job in a new field.
I havent had much to say about HR in the past few months. Looking for a job in HR for a year and a half can really put one off the subject. Sorry about that. At the same time, Im not sorry - after eight years I feel more than ready to move on.
Im excited about school and finally having some direction after long, directionless and angst filled wandering.
I'm going to leave the HR Wench blog up. Amazingly enough, it still gets traffic. And it is a testament to a part of my life that contained many lessons learned, new friends gained and all that jazz. Who knows, maybe I will start a blog about being in paralegal school...or being a newbie paralegal. Until then, you can find me on Twitter under my new user ID @jennbarnes77.
Since I am a sucker for poetry, and William Stafford poetry in particular, I will leave you some of his words:
You Reading This, Be Ready
Starting here, what do you want to remember?
How sunlight creeps along a shining floor?
What scent of old wood hovers, what softened
sound from outside fills the air?
Will you ever bring a better gift for the world
than the breathing respect that you carry
wherever you go right now? Are you waiting
for time to show you some better thoughts?
When you turn around, starting here, lift this
new glimpse that you found; carry into evening
all that you want from this day. This interval you spent
reading or hearing this, keep it for life -
What can anyone give you greater than now,
starting here, right in this room, when you turn around?

I'm sad that you will be no longer be blogging as HR Wench but I'm glad that you found a direction that you are excited about. You and this blog are part of why I got into the HR blogging community in the first place. You will kick ass and succeed and I hope you get back to blogging soon, no matter what about, since I miss your posts. :) Lots of hugs and don't be a stranger! After all, I still have a brother-in-law who's single...
Like the HR Minion, you were an influence on me throwing my HR hat into the blogging ring. Thank you for all you have done. I look forward to you starting a blog about your school/paralegal adventure (hint, hint) :-)
Best of luck to you!
I've really enjoyed reading HR Wench. Hopefully, you will take us along with you on your new journey...
Best of Luck going forward, like the others I am a huge fan of the HR Wench blog and will definitely miss your wit and insight in the HR space.
You should totally continue blogging. Even if it's not HR related. You're always welcome to come back to HR - as long as you don't move to my city and become my competition (I'll cut you). :)
The best thing to come out of this blog? Our friendship.
You guys are awesome.
All the best Jenn.
I am not happy we are losing you as a blogger! Are you sure you can't continue to blog? Regardless, good luck in the new career -- I am sure you will do great!
You have the best wishes of scads of people you've never met. Your career move will allow you to bring your experience to bear in new and meaningful ways.
An Irish toast: May the best day of your past be the worst day of your future!
I'm so happy for you Jenn as I know how hard this has been on you. Know that you will always have a great group of people with big smiles, open hearts and a willingness to help you in any way possible. You've been a great voice and I'm looking forward to "Legal Wench" emerging in 2010.
All my best,
Mark
Best of luck to you! Based on your last tweet - http://twitter.com/jennbarnes77/status/2109345914 - I'd say you've made the right call. It's so important to love what you do and be excited about it. I still hope, being relatively close neighbors, we'll meet someday.
You guys are going to make me cry!
Thank you so much for all you have done. You answered a question for me when I was feeling VERY low after graduating from college a year ago. Resume after resume got sent out into the void and it was driving me crazy. Your response to my email, and the consequent comments really helped me hang in there until I found a job. I never thought I would work in Marketing, but an English major has to do what an English major has to do, right?
Congratulations on making the decision to try another career path, and to go back to school! Making a decision like that takes guts, and I completely respect you for it.
I do hope you keep blogging in some capacity, even if it's not topical. I think the Jen Barnes blog would be just as interesting as the HRWench blog. I may have to break down and make a personal Twitter account so I can keep up with you.
Congratulations on your new adventure ! I am excited for you even though I will miss your HR Wench blog so much.
I hope you'll continue to blog/tweet about your schooling and new path.
Best of luck !!!
Jenn -
Don’t leave!!
Thanks for always being so helpful and giving. All the best to you with your new career.
Jenn - I've so enjoyed reading your blog! I wish you the best and know that the HR job market has been a killer. My very best wishes in your new endeavors. Keep in touch!

hello... hapi blogging... have a nice day! just visiting here....
best wishes Jenn!
Hope the new career works out great for you!
Congratulations on your new direction. I agree with the others above that you should definitely continue blogging. The voice you write in is enjoyable to read no matter what the subject.
BTW, my mom has been a paralegal at the same Seattle firm for over 30 years now. She LOVES her job and if I had to pick another career that would have been it. So you certainly picked a good one.
We'll miss you.
I am glad to hear this. It is awesome that you are going in a new direction. That's always exciting. I have always thought of laying aside my endeavor to be a graphic designer and trying something else. But a new path can be scary as well as rewarding. I pray God blesses you in this new area and opens many doors for you. :)
