Channeling Lady Gaga at work
Like many street corners in America, one in my neighborhood is occupied by someone paid to hold a sign.
I generally don't like sign-holders or the companies that employ them. They are purposely trying to distract drivers, which is not a good idea in my book.
However, one sign holder has gotten my attention. She wears headphones and dances throughout her entire shift.
- I drive to the gym, she's there dancing.
- I drive home from the gym, she's there dancing.
- I drive to the grocery store - yep, still there, still dancing.
This woman probably makes minimum wage (part time, at that) and has to stand in hot sun, cold rain, annoying wind and inhale car exhaust. But there she is - dancing.
Holy smokes, you guys. I think this lady is onto something.

I've tried to resist Lady Gaga but I can't... she rocks... and she's so young.
I love Lady Gaga! I wouldn't mind getting to dance all day long at work. As it is I'm usually bouncing around my cube to my iPod.
I think my peeps would rather I dance to Lady Gaga then sing her tunes. I am CERTAIN it is good to want to dance on the job.
Am I the only one who is thinking, "They must not have drug tested her?"
Nice to see you posting, Jenn.
The old saying "...dance as if no one is watching..." came to mind as I read your comments. I like how the woman is making the most of her day and the best of a most annoying job. I could take a lesson from her... :-)
I don't know much about Lady Gaga, but I do know that listening to "Just Dance" on my iPod while on the elliptical or stair climber at the gym makes me keep moving! :)
@Kerry- I agree, she's on to something, it's called "speed".
You have an interesting blog. I saw the link on another site and decided to check it out. I'm an HR Professional in Ohio.
Strangely, I just loaded "Poker Face" onto my iPod last night!
Oh, and I can't stand the sign-holders either!
Denise - I don't know, I think she is just making a not so great situation more bearable. She doesn't dance "inappropriately". She jams. Does that make sense? I think it's great.
Constant Complainer - I can't handle the "p-p-p-p-p" part of Poker Face, but to each their own! :)
I can't help but think of how many calories she's burning! Of course that makes me think of how many calories I could burn if I danced here in my cubicle all day!
I first heard Lady Gaga on American Idol. Then I heard it on the radio and now I am hooked!
I am a dancer at heart so anytime I can get my groove on..I do! But dancing in front of traffic may take a margarita or two.
A positive attitude can make a big difference. I love this video, it seems like a company that would be fun to work for http://curiouscatlinks.blogspot.com/2007/06/company-culture.html
