HR Wench is a temp
Well, I gave in.
I got a temp job that begins on Monday and wll go for 90 days (most likely).
The good news is, I'll be working for my former-former manager who is my favorite manager of all time. I'll be doing HR generalist work for a 160 person medical billing company. While I won't be able to write about the specific, confidential stuff I'll be dealing with, I still hope working again will give me fresh ideas for posts.
Up until now I've avoided temp work. This is because starting a "new job" is always mentally and physically draining for me and I figured I shouldn't "waste" it on temping. Kinda silly sounding, I know. But I know myself and decided I knew what was best for me. I like how that works.
Starting this job won't be so trying for me, however. I know my boss well and she is awesome. I know her work style, that she is supportive & down to earth. I don't have to worry about getting to know her or how she will react to my work. It's very freeing!
So, I took a trip down to good old Nordstrom today and spent some $ on new work slacks. The quality kind. It will be harder to find work-worthy tops though. It's that time of year when everything in the store is long sleeved and I'm one of those people who is always too warm. I need short sleeves or a big fan on me all day.
In other news, I interviewed for a benefits position the week before last and the company seems interested. They are a wind turbine company & growing like gang busters. I really liked the hiring manager and the recruiter so I'm hoping something will come of it. I also got a call yesterday about another benefits position with a regional bank. I have an interview with them next week. If I got that job, my commute would be just over 1 mile. Nice!
I'm still going to Vegas for the Talent Management Summit, never fear. Being able to go to that as well as continue to seek full time employment are important to me. Since my manager at my temp gig is awesome, she supports me in those endeavors. Aww. Finally, something good is happening. Took long enough!
Now all Ineed want is to meet a great guy. Or, something.

I'm glad you are still coming to Vegas! I would be sad otherwise.
Hey Jenn - Congrats for the job!
Enjoy Veggggggas. Too bad my company does not invite me to many events...
Congratulations!
Thanks dewds. I'm excited, but also a little melancholy. I will miss all the sleeping. :)
I happy to see this headline show up in my RSS feed, and happier to see it's for a manager you really like. That's, in my opinion, the #1 factor for enjoying a job. Hope it turns into /leads to something that's a great fit for you.
I'm happy for you. I'm a big believer in temp jobs, actually.
YAY! Congrats on the gig. You are gonna rock this temp position like no one else could. :-)
PS. On a fashion note: a lot of clothing websites are still placing their summer/ short sleeve stuff on clearance. Good luck! Happy shopping!
Stay away from the banking industry. SCARY!
J- Oh man, I didn't even think of that. It's a small, regional bank though...I wonder if those will be ok?
Congrats. I think a temp job is a wonderful idea. Just don't let this put your real job search on the back burner.
Temping has saved me many a time...once I even was hired by a Temp Agency to dress up as a bear and hand out snow cones at a GEMCO opening...now that was a sweet gig!
Congrats Jenn. You are going to do great!
Bryan
Congratulations!!!
Thanks everyone. So far so good as of the second day. I'll be posting again soon (I hope - am v. tired!)
Bummer, it's cutting into your post time!
Srsly, hope it's going well.
Jenn -
Congratulations, and all the best in your new position.
Just remember that when they let you go, they mean it.
Last week I called out of my temp job. The agency called and said the job didn't want me back (feeling was mutual) and that the agency would pick up my stuff and send it to me. Since I had to be in the city anyway for a doctor's appointment, I figured I would stop by and get my own stuff, which was literally four items. Big mistake. The agency called the next day and said that I had been trespassing, and that the company claimed I had deleted work off of my computer. Never mind that there were PEOPLE there while I was there, and that it was only two minutes, and they can check my log-in and know I hadn't logged in in over 24 hours. Looking back I can see why this was a bad idea, but it really seemed like a reasonable thing to do at the time...
Anyway, congrats on the job. :)
Lulu - Holy cow. That is nutty. I'm not worried about this gig. It's with my former-former manager who is totally awesome & laid back. We know each other well enough to speak plainly to each other. :)
